How I Escape a Wardrobe Slump

There comes a point in your lolita journey where you feel at a loss with your current wardrobe. This realization can be due to several reasons. Perhaps you have not added anything new in quite some time, or maybe the items in your wardrobe are of a varied color pallet. Whatever the reason, sometimes a change, is just what the fashion stylist ordered! Here is how I personally deal with this.

Lay it all Out.

When you find yourself in a wardrobe slump, it is always a good idea to take inventory of your apparel. I find that, when you have all of your items laid out, it is easier to assess where the gaps in your wardrobe exist. For my last wardrobe slump, I laid out all of my apparel items onto my bed so I would be able to assess where I could improve my overall collection. Ask yourself:

What is my wardrobe lacking?
Where can I improve?
What items do I wear the least?
What can I add in order to assist this?

These questions will help you figure out what you can do to free yourself from your slump!

1. What is my wardrobe lacking?

Honestly, my wardrobe is lacking in quite a few areas. While I have a very good start to a lolita wardrobe, I could use additional pieces. Another petticoat and more long-sleeved blouses would be nice. Another short-sleeved blouse, a few boleros, and some more bloomers would be good, too!

2. Where can I improve?

A lolita winter coat and winter boots would be a place to begin, as I do not have any yet. These additions would help to build my wardrobe and allow me to wear lolita clothes in all seasons. Of course, I would like some extra dresses, solid and printed. Additionally, all the dresses I have are of a lightweight, and I could use some heavier pieces. There is always room for improvement!

3. What items do I wear the least?

It appears that I do not wear all of my items equally. Out of all of my items, I wear my Precious Clove, Letters To My Dear Lolita Jumperskirt and my handmade skirt least. The skirt is understandable. I prefer jumperskirts and one-piece dresses rather than lolita skirts. As a woman with a bust, I find that dresses minimize that particular area much better than a skirt. I have been unable to find a blouse that I am comfortable wearing with a skirt. As for my lovely Precious Clove dress, the dress features an ivory lace. I rarely it because I do not own an off-white or ivory blouse to accompany it.

4. What can I add to fix this?

Why order more items of course! I do very well with the items I do have, to be sure, but new items would be a great addition. The first items that I would need to order would include a bright white blouse and a long-sleeved ivory blouse. Since I plan to order these particular items from Bunny House, I could also order a few boleros and other lolita essentials at the same time -- bonus!
