A Small Tribute from Baby, the Stars Shine Bright

When I learned of the New York Baby, the Stars Shine Bright store closure announcement, I had to make a purchase. I wanted to financially contribute to a brand that I truly enjoy as a participant in this fashion subculture. Due to the fact that the New York location did not have any items I wished to purchase, I found an item I have wanted to buy for quite some time at the San Francisco location and I am glad that I did!

This bunny bear mascot is quite famous in our niche fashion community! Currently, I do not have a dress in my wardrobe that would match this cute icon and do it justice. While this is a something I hope to fix this year, it does not mean that I can't enjoy a miniature version of the Usakumya rucksack in the meantime!

For those of you who may not know, I own a doll that is similar to a ball-jointed doll named Hitomi. Hitomi is a sweet lolita, just like me! BABY has collaborations with VOLKS, a Japanese toy and doll company. In addition to a full BABY Lolita coordinate collaboration for VOLKS dolls, sometimes these limited releases feature a doll size Usakumya rucksack.

I requested a brand shopping bag and my request was indulged! My order had been carefully encased in a plastic cover. I was excited to see that there was a surprise business card! But wait, there is an additional surprise. The card was actually a decal! I have wanted a brand decal to display on my baby blue Nissan Versa Note for quite some time. I was not even aware the BABY created such novelties themselves. I cannot wait to put it on my vehicle, cellphone or any other flat surface.

My mini Usakumya rucksack was wrapped carefully within lovely light pink folded tissue paper. As with most shipped items from Baby, the Stars Shine Bright the presentation was absolutely lovely.

Usakumya is too cute for words! For an item that is only 13 centimeters tall, the details on this backpack are absolutely stunning! Each detail on this Usakumya looks just like it's larger counterpart.

The Usakumya is constructed of mostly soft fleece. The lace on Usakumya's collar is intricate and soft to the touch. The lace also appears to be very sturdy, so it should keep up well. The satin ribbon at the mascot's neck and atop of the bunny hood are well constructed and give Usakumya a sweet look.

The rhinestones that are attached to Usakumya's hair ribbons have been stitched to the bow and hood rather than glued. This was a complete surprise. While I have never lost a glued rhinestone on a Baby, the Stars Shine Bright piece, this added measure of security was a wonderful aspect! As seen in the stock photos, the rabbit hood can be moved off of the mascot's head if you'd like another look.

At the bottom of mascot's left foot, there is a beautifully embroidered BABY logo with a rhinestone.

At Usakumy's back you can see the attached rucksack back straps, a BABY copyright information tag and a pink stitched back seam. I love the added detail of the back seam because it makes this miniature Usakumya resemble a recently completed stuffed animal. It is truly a charming detail.

A metal ring is at the base of Usakumya's back. Connected to this ring are two lobster claps. There are also a set of lobster clasps at the base of the mascot as well. The base lobster claps are attached to two d-rings. The back straps of the rucksack are made of grosgrain ribbon and each strap features a plastic slider. This miniature rucksack has adjustable straps!

The size of this Usakumya is perfect for Hitomi! As a 50 cm doll, Hitomi is roughly 10 CM too tall for an MSD doll size and 10 CM too short for an SD sized doll. All previous releases of the exclusive VOLKS Usakumya would be too large for Hitomi. I am happy to be able to report that Little Usakumya Rucksack at 13 inches is the perfect for a 40-50 centimeter doll, and Usakumya Rucksack Mini Mini at 21 centimeters should be a great fit for a 60-65 centimeter doll.

Overall Rating:

Communication 10/10

I did not have any complications with my order, nor did I have any questions. The only communication that I had with the staff was through the "comment" section of my order. Not only was my request for a shopping bag granted, but I received a decal, too!

Quality 10/10

Outstanding! I see now why this item sold out so quickly from the online store. All of the pieces that Usakumya is constructed from are very sturdy and the overall material is soft. Each intricate detail of this miniature rucksack is lovely and a great feature to this charming piece. I absolutely love it!

Shipping 8/10

The only shipping method offered was "Express Shipping" for $14. I would have liked a first-class mail option. Also, a small flat rate box does not cost more than $7.20, which was a received.

Do you currently have an Usakumya? Which version and in what size? I still need to get one of my own. If not, do you wish to have one?

Stay Frilly~
