How I Keep from Going Crazy While I Wait for Lolita Purchases
I am thankful that I exist in a time when ordering items online is a common practice. While adding new lolita items to my collection is simple and something I love, waiting is an entirely different matter.
I buy a lot of items that need custom sizing. As expected, extra time is needed to create lolita pieces to my custom measurements. Often it can take up to 20 or more business days to make my items. That does not include the international shipping required to get from the shop to my doorstep!
Needless to say, I have gotten very good at distracting myself. I can patiently count down the days before my desired package arrives. Here are my 5 tips!
1. Make a folder of the items you bought.
This is a great way for you to stay excited about the items you purchased without having to log into the shop you purchased from. I find if I am on the shop website, I attempt to track my order updates or see other items I want to add to my completed order. It is a simple solution that can save you some impatience.
2. Subscribe to order updates.
If the shop you ordered items from has the option to send automatic updates to your email address, it is a feature I would highly suggest. This simple feature will allow you to know when there are updates or changes to your order without the need to obsessively check the shop for your order status. The trick is to not check your email more frequently than you already do. The temptation will be there!
3. Distract yourself with other lolita subjects.
Here are just a few great ways to surround yourself with lolita themes without having to expose yourself to tempting online shops or marketplaces. Look up daily coordinate photos, try some new makeup tutorials, read the latest lolita articles, watch some fashion videos, participate in online communities, keep yourself updated with lolita news and work on do-it-yourself projects you have wanted to try!
4. Distract yourself with other hobbies.
When the above lolita themes fail to distract me, I turn to my other hobbies. I watch my favorite television shows, write some short stories, draw some chibis, play some video games, plan some future cosplay costumes, make some clothes for my ball-jointed-dolls, take some much-needed stock photos, edit my YouTube videos and write down ideas for my blog. I have so many distractions to choose from!
5. Don’t obsess over your tracking number.
Ah, the wonderful tracking number. This is the code that so you can track the location of your order. While this is a fantastic tool, be sure that you do not check the location of your package. I only check the location of my package in the morning and before I leave from work. That way, if it has arrived, I know whether to look for a little yellow slip.
